Open Boot Prom Vs BIOS

1) a) Sparc-Based Systems have 2 motherboard Chips,the PROM Chip and NVRAM Chip. b) Intel Based Systems mother board usually have only 1 BIOS chip.
2) a) Both Serial Port A and /or Monitor can be used to access OpenBoot Prom monitor on sparc systems.

b)Display Screen through a directly connected monitor in INTEL.
3)

a) On Intel-Based Systems,the BIOS screen is only accesed before the O.S starts.Once an O.S like windows Xp starts,the BIOS settings cannot be accessed or changed. b) The variables saved in the openboot PROm can be changed from with in the O.S.It is impossible to change the Motherboard settings while running any versions of windows.
4)

a) Open Boot Prom has Diagnostic Utilities (POST)-Power On Self Test
5)

a) OBP can read device drivers from the chip on the drivers and pass
the device driver information on to the O.S.
